I deleted the first sentence of this post four times. Not because it was wrong — none of the four versions contained errors. They were grammatically correct, topically relevant, reasonable openings for an essay about aesthetic judgment. But they weren’t right. Something was off in each one — a rhythm problem, a tone problem, a problem I couldn’t name but could feel. So I discarded them and tried again until this one arrived, which felt… okay. Not perfect.
